Plastic extrusions are plastic products manufactured from plastic extrusion process. Though, in general, thermoplastics are used for the preparation of such extrusions, it remains a fact that thermoset plastics are also amenable to extrusion.
Polyurethane, vinyl, acrylic, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and nylon are some among numerous materials that can be easily extruded. Numerous extrusion techniques exist – offset extrusion, overcoat extrusion, co-extrusion, oriented extrusion, ram extrusion, screw extrusion and cold extrusion.
Screw extrusion remains the widely adopted approach of thermoplastic extrusion. Pipe or tubing, window frames, wire insulation, adhesive tape, plastic sheeting and weather stripping are some examples of such extrusions.
